Reiki Practitioner, Heal Thyself (or not)!

Published by marycaelsto at 6:48 pm under reiki, wellness Edit This

Most reiki practitioners agree that it is a Japanese technique for stress-reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. After “discovering” reiki in the early 1900’s, Dr. Mikao Usui developed a practice that included a healing clinic in Japan. It is his beliefs and modalities that were passed on to his students. (Reiki: The Healing Touch by William Lee Rand) And, while there are some people who learn reiki to treat others and make a living from it, the large majority of people learn reiki for themselves and their loved ones. So yes, I believe that a reiki practitioner can use reiki to heal him, or herself.

Now, with that said, personally, I think that starts to get into a very complicated web of fate, higher self, and personal beliefs. Being relatively healthy (except for raging hay fever from Spring- Fall), I’ve used reiki for relaxation and to ease sinus pain and pressure as well as menstrual cramps. If I feel like I’m getting a cold or coming down with something, I will add reiki to my regimen along with hot tea and vitamin c.

I will admit to being a skeptic. I once worked as a distributor for an essential oil company whose members claimed that these oils-and these oils alone-would cure such things as cancer and mental illness. To be honest, that scared me a little. As much as I disparage our western medicine system, I think that anything, be it antibiotics from a medical doctor, reiki, essential oils, or whatever, needs to be used with common sense and in conjunction with other things. While reiki has worked some miracles, as has many alternative healing techniques, I don’t think it can be the sole source of healing. This could also be my belief, because I believe everything happens for a purpose and a reason, our physical bodies may not know the reason why.

In the end, I will say that there are those who have used reiki to heal themselves. I use it to ease my symptoms and to help my pets and loved ones. I would never see it as a replacement for medicine, conventional or otherwise.

Yes, I agree with you completely.

In fact, I think so much illness is brought on by emotions or beliefs to begin with. It’s important to take responsibility for our lives - we need to look inside and see if there is a reason for the condition. Such as a back problem because we are carrying to heavy of a load in life and so on. However, conventional medicine is important. It may have to repair the back when it has gotten so bad and we have not been able to work out the problems in our emotions. Conventional medicine may save our life so that we can continue to grow and evolve. Everything has it’s purpose.

I think you need to save up to get what you need in Reiki in order to teach. You are very clear and concise in your explanations.
