What is an Abundance Journal?
In these economic times, it’s far too easy to get in the not enough money - need to work more trap. After all, it’s what we’re taught. Hard work equals more money. The early bird gets the worm. No pain no gain. All those says help foster our belief about money and abundance in the universe. And to some extent that’s true. We haven’t quite evolved yet to tap into the cosmic ATM and wish our every wish into existance. But if we could, wouldn’t that be cool?
I’m not saying that we can lay on a sunny beach somewhere with a drink and an open bar tab and simply manifest our every desire with our mind. What I am saying is that our minds can be powerful tools to help bring out our own abundance and prosperity. And that is where an abundance journal comes into play.
An abundance journal is a blank book or notebook where we write our story the way we want it to be. It isn’t a place for “when I win the lottery I’ll…” or “Once I get…” It’s a place to say exactly what you want in life.
My abundance journal is two fold.
The first is where I list what I’m thankful for on a daily basis. I usually choose seven to eight things, and yes, it’s okay if they overlap from day to day. For example, I may be thankful for family members’ continued health. Well, if they’re still healthy, I’m going to still be thankful.
I also list mundane things like being thankful I could pay my bills or being thankful for a job.
The second part is my “story.” It’s here I write in first person present tense the way I want my life to be. And I believe it! That’s the last part. Sure, you may say, “but this isn’t the way I’m living now. It’s where I want to be.” Well, if you want to be there, you have to envision yourself there. Star athletes mentally reherse their performances. We should too.
For example, if you want to move out of an apartment into a house, your story would start like this…
I live in a house in a good neighborhood with excellent schools for my children. My house was affordable with easy monthly payments. I was able to purchase the house for $x down and my interest rate isn’t above X percent. We have a big mutt dog named Rover. …
The story would then continue however the individual sees fit.
But why would you want to have an abundance journal? That is the subject of our next post.
